We were pleasantly surprised to find out that L'Ybane now offers a 2-course prix fixe menu for just $19.95. If you go for lunch, their prix fixe comes at the amazing price of $9.95! Whether you come to L'Ybane for a meal or just wine, the waiter always sets down a platter of carrot sticks and fries with a dip for you to munch on while you mull over your order, which I really like about the place. We decided to do the prix fixe, and our super friendly waiter recommended pita bread stuffed with cheese and spiced chickpea fritters for starters, both of which were very good. The pita was grilled so that the filling of mozzarella, feta and goat cheese sprinkled with herbs melted nicely. So delicious. The chickpea fritters had a nice little kick to them and tasted great with the tangy tahini. I like how generous they are with the salad of mixed greens, grape tomatoes, and chopped pepper and cucumber that come with appetizers and entrees.
For entrees, you get a choice of one of their salads or brochettes of lamb, chicken, beef or minced meat. Mika chose the marinated chicken while I chose the lamb. The chicken, in my opinion, was much better as the meat was so flavorful and tender.
The lamb skewers were also good and very tender but did not pack the same flavor as the chicken. I love that the entrees come with both a salad and rice. The rice is probably quickly sauteed in a pan with some oil because it is quite flavorful too.
It was definitely a great meal. We left feeling satisfied but not stuffed to the gills. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was gracious and accomodating, and they never rushed us even though we were the only customers there on a Monday night (they literally closed up after we left). I would go back, of course, and I hope that more people will think of L'Ybane when looking for a nice spot for lunch, dinner or drinks on the Upper East Side.
